Some numerical questions require your students to specify units in their response — for example, 1.609 km instead of 1.609. To reward your students for demonstrating a partial understanding of the question, you can configure your assignments to award partial credit for numerically incorrect responses that specify compatible units.
Compatible units are units that specify the same kind of measurement specified by the key. For example, when the key is 1 mile, the following responses are all considered correct: 1760 yd, 5280 ft, 1.609 km. But 640 acres and 1 mi2 are both dimensionally incorrect.
When you award partial credit for compatible units, your students receive a specified percentage of the question's point value if their response uses compatible units but is numerically incorrect, for example, 1 km or 0.622 mi instead of 1 mi.
You cannot award partial credit for numerically correct responses that omit or incorrectly identify units.
You can configure partial credit for units for your classes or for your assignments. By default, new assignments do not override the class settings for units partial credit.
The default class settings do not give partial credit for compatible units.
