Limit Feedback

For assignments composed of multiple-choice questions — for example, an in-class chapter review — you can encourage rich debate by limiting students' feedback so they do not know which questions they have answered correctly.

To use this method:

  • Turn off answer feedback (Correct/Incorrect) for the assignment.
  • Turn off scores for individual questions and question parts, showing only the assignment score.
  • Require submission of the entire assignment.
  • Allow 3-5 submissions.

With each submission, your students will know only their assignment score, not which questions were answered correctly or not. To maximize their score, your students will need to discuss each response, defending or explaining their reasons, and arrive at a group consensus for each question.
