You can schedule assignments to be due a specified amount of time before or after
one
of the class meetings for a week — for example, to make an in-class assignment due
10
minutes before the end of Wednesday's class.
Using this method of scheduling has some advantages:
- You do not have to remember when each section meets or calculate the due date
yourself.
- Assignments scheduled in this way are intelligently rescheduled when copied to
other sections or courses, based on the meet times of the sections to which they
are copied.
For example, if the assignment was scheduled for a section that
meets at 8:30 AM on MWF in the fall term to be due 10 minutes before
Wednesday's class starts in week 4, it will be scheduled for a section that
meets at 10:00 AM on TuTh in the spring term to be due 10 minutes before
Thursday's class starts in week 4. The original scheduling rule is used, but
is applied to the new class schedule for the new section.
Alternatively, you can Schedule an Assignment Based on the Day of the Week.
You can schedule assignments based on class meetings only for sections that were
created with class meet days and times specified.
-
Open the Schedule page.
From My Classes, click
Class Schedule under Class
Tools.
-
Find the assignment you want to schedule in the Assignments
list.
Only assignments that you own or are scheduled to the current section are
listed.
-
Drag an unscheduled assignment from the Assignments list
to the Schedule panel.
Drag the assignment to the week of the related class meeting even if the
assignment will be due in a different week.
- If needed, drag the assignment to a different week number at the top of
the Schedule panel.
- Unscheduled Course Pack assignments are grouped under the Course Pack name.
Expand the Course Pack to see the individual
assignments.
-
Multiple unscheduled assignments with the same name are grouped
together.
Expand the group to see the individual assignments, or drag the group
to schedule the most recently saved assignment in the group.
- Dragging to the Scheduled section of the Assignments list will not work.
For example, you might have a post-lab assignment that is due a week after
the lab meeting. Because the assignment is tied to the lab, drag it to the
week in which the lab occurs.
-
Change the Due date and time for the assignment.
By default, the assignment is Due 0 minutes before the
last class meeting of the week starts.
Note If you have scheduled assignments during your
current WebAssign session, the default values for Due,
Available, and View Until are set
based on the rules specified for the last scheduled assignment.
If needed, change the values for the Due rule.
-
Select Relative to a class meeting.
-
Type a number of units.
-
Select a unit of time — minutes, hours, or
days.
Tip Select days if you want to
specify a particular time of day for the assignment to be
due.
-
Select either before or
after.
-
Select the class meeting for which the assignment will be
scheduled.
-
Select starts, ends, or
at.
Note You can choose at only when the unit you
selected is days.
-
If you selected at, type the time of day when
the assignment will be due.
For example, select:
5 |
days |
before |
Wednesday's class |
starts |
Or, select:
0 |
days |
before |
Wednesday's class |
at |
2:00 AM |
The calculated due date and time is displayed at the top of the panel.
Note You cannot schedule an assignment to be due in the past.
- Optional:
Change the Available or View
Until rules.
By default, the assignment is available at the start of the course and
students can view their work until the end of the course.
-
Click Schedule.
The assignment is listed under the selected week and the calculated
assignment dates are displayed.
If needed, add restrictions to the assignment.
Note You cannot schedule a single assignment more than once in a section.
However,
some users have multiple copies of assignments. This often happens for course
coordinators who choose to create new copies of assignments for each section.
WebAssign displays a warning if you try to schedule more than one assignment with the
same name to the same section. If this warning is displayed, you can either
cancel or schedule the assignment anyway.
