Clearly written and focused for success,
College Algebra, 12th edition by Gustafson and Hughes and published by
Cengage Learning, provides in-depth and precise coverage, incorporated into a framework of tested teaching strategy. The authors combine carefully selected pedagogical features and patient explanations to give students a book that preserves the integrity of mathematics, yet does not discourage them with material that is confusing or too rigorous. The authors have focused on making this new edition more modern to better illustrate to students the importance of math in their world. The WebAssign enhancement to this textbook engages students with immediate feedback, rich tutorial content, video instruction, and a fully customizable eBook.
Question 1 features prompts which alert the student how to enter several answer possibilities; a single answer, multiple answers, or no answer. Thus, the question is presented to not give away the type of answer. In this case, the grading accepts a comma-separated list of answers.
Question 2 includes a prompt to instruct the student that the domain should be entered in interval notation. Either the keyboard or the mathPad can be used to enter the answer.
Question 3 requires the student to find the difference quotient and the prompt indicates that the answer must be fully simplified. A Master It and a solution are included.
Question 4 presents a graph with several randomized points. The coordinates must be entered in the form "
x,
y" for the ordered pair grading.
Question 5 contains a Watch It, a Master It, and a solution.
Questions 6 and 7 showcase our flexibility in equation grading. In question 6, the grading requires the answer to have
y on one side of the equation and
x on the other side, per the instructions to use slope-intercept form. In question 7, credit is received for a question in standard form, per the instructions.
Question 8 demonstrates grading for expanded logarithms. Use the mathPad to enter the logarithm notation. A Watch It is included.
Question 9 uses special matrix grading where the entire matrix is considered one answer, rather than each element graded individually. The student is able to adjust the size of the matrix if necessary. A Watch It, a Master It, and a solution are included.
This demo assignment allows many submissions and allows you to try another version of the same question for practice wherever the problem has randomized values.
The answer key and solutions will display after the first submission for demonstration purposes. Instructors can configure these to display after the due date or after a specified number of submissions. |
