Enhanced WebAssign from Brooks/Cole

The content for this textbook is part of the Enhanced WebAssign series from Brooks/Cole. An Enhanced WebAssign access card is required for this book. This special access card can be packaged with a new textbook. The access card can also be purchased online or at the bookstore by students who need access.

Please discuss how to order College Physics 8e packaged with WebAssign with your textbook representative or WebAssign.

When you use WebAssign with the pedagogy and content found in the best-selling Serway physics books, you help your students see physics in action. When you assign homework using WebAssign, your students are able to interact with the very concepts they are learning about!

  1. Active Figures - improve visualization skills
Animated figures from the text come to life and allow students to visualize phenomena and processes that can't be represented on the printed page. In addition to viewing animations of the figures from the text, students can change variables to see the effects, conduct suggested explorations of the principles involved in the figure, and take and receive feedback on quizzes related to the figure.

  2. Active Examples - build a bridge between practice and homework
Serway physics texts are filled with helpful worked Examples. These acclaimed examples have been enhanced in WebAssign to include hints and feedback specific to students' answers to help them master the concept in the worked Example. To reinforce mastery, a new Question has been added to the end of every worked example in the 8th edition. These questions require a conceptual response or a knowledge of the relationships between concepts represented in the example. Each one of these questions in WebAssign includes conceptual feedback to help a student. To help build their problem-solving confidence, students are also provided with a slightly more difficult follow-up problem to ensure they are ready to tackle the end-of-chapter homework problems.

  3. End of Chapter Problems - now with feedback!
Serway texts are renowned for their outstanding collection of end-of-chapter Problems. There are three levels of Problems, indicated in the text with black, blue, and magenta numbering for increasing level of difficulty. All problems have been carefully worded and have been checked for clarity and accuracy. And now you'll find algorithmic versions of all end-of-chapter problems from your Serway textbook available in WebAssign with logical feedback for your students depending on their answer. The 8th edition of the text has new problem types that are clearly identified in WebAssign. The Enhanced Content Problems require symbolic or conceptual responses from the student and Guided Problems help students break problems into smaller steps.

  4. Quick Quizzes
Quick Quiz questions are included throughout the textbook and in WebAssign to provide opportunities for students to test their understanding of physical concepts just presented in the text. All Quick Quizzes are cast in an objective format, including multiple choice, true/false, and ranking.

  5. Conceptual Questions
A selection of Conceptual Questions allows students to test themselves on text concepts. Applying Physics examples from the texts serve as models for students when Conceptual Questions are assigned in WebAssign, and show how the concepts can be applied to understanding the physical world. Conceptual Questions are ideal for initiating classroom discussions.

  6. Multiple-Choice Questions
The 8th edition of this text has a brand new set of multiple-choice questions that are offered completely in WebAssign. These questions are asked at the end of each chapter and follow one of two strategies. Some require calculations to help facilitate familiarity with equations and concepts that variables represent. The rest are conceptual based, specifically designed to encourage conceptual thinking. A multiple-choice type question offers desirable practice to students whose assessment is based on multiple-choice type tests.

  7. Solutions
You can now give your students access to the solutions offered in the Student Solutions Manual, at your discretion--for example, after a particular submission or after the assignment due date has passed.

Questions Available within WebAssign

Most questions from this textbook are available in WebAssign. The online questions are identical to the textbook questions except for minor wording changes necessary for Web use. Whenever possible, variables, numbers, or words have been randomized so that each student receives a unique version of the question. This list is updated nightly.
