Getting Started

I'm interested in using WebAssign; how do I get started?

Thanks for your interest! The first step is to request a free faculty account. New account login information will be emailed within 1 business day. Please check your SPAM filter if you requested an account and haven't received a prompt reply.

Once you receive your login info, you can create a class. If the textbook used in your class is available via WebAssign, adding the textbook to your class unlocks the question content so you can start building assignments. Use this link to verify that your textbook is currently supported by WebAssign.

Our online documentation for instructors is comprehensive and includes step-by-step instructions for common tasks. Quick-Start Guides for both instructors and students get you up and running fast, and you can provide students with our first-day-of-class handouts to orient them to WebAssign and provide necessary information about class keys, access codes, and passwords.

In addition, each institution has a WebAssign Account Manager. Use this map to identify your Account Manager and access contact information.

Student Access

I've created a WebAssign class but my students can't log in.

There are several reasons why students may be having problems logging in.

Did you enter the roster for your class or turn on self-enrollment?

  • If you entered a roster, you must distribute usernames and passwords to students.
  • If you turned on self-enrollment, did you provide the correct class key number to your students?

Is the student listed on your roster? From the class roster, instructors can verify student usernames and reset passwords.

Did the student use the same username in a previous class? If so, the student needs to reuse his old password or request a password reset.

My students can't register the Access Code Cards that came bundled with their textbooks.

Is the correct textbook listed under Edit Class Settings? If not, please contact WebAssign so we can help you update it.

My students can't register the Access Code Cards that they purchased at the bookstore.

Did they buy the correct card? Use this page to verify the code prefix for your textbook.

My bookstore doesn't have any more WebAssign Access Code Cards.

Your bookstore can reorder access code cards and have the shipment expedited. Your WebAssign Account Manager can extend the access code grace period, if necessary. Use this map to identify your Account Manager and access contact information.

Using WebAssign

I created assignments, but my students can't see them!

Have you scheduled the assignments? Students cannot see assignments that do not have due dates.

My students aren't able to see their scores or correct/incorrect marks after they submit their answers.

These options are controlled using the Assignment Editor (under Feedback). See the Essentials Guide, Changing Administration Settings for Assignments, for further information about these settings. If you still need assistance, contact us.

Help! My course has disappeared!

When a class is created, one of the settings the instructor selects is Date Last Visible to Students. After that date has passed, just click Past Classes to see your course. You can also click Edit Class Settings to update the end date and make the class visible in your current view.

Is there a way to copy my old course?

After you create a new class, you can reschedule or propagate assignments from past classes. In the online help, search for the term "propagate" for more details.
