Physics Demonstrations
Julien C. Sprott
University of Wisconsin - Madison
|
Now you see it, now you don't! This might work if you're a magician, but if you're a physics teacher, you know students need to see
a demonstration more than once to really understand the principles behind the physics.
Physics Demonstrations is a collection of ten motion and sound simulations that can be replayed as often as necessary. You can
emphasize a specific aspect or freeze the demonstration to explain a more difficult concept. The package works well in conjunction
with real-life demonstrations too. Students can watch an actual experiment and then recreate it with the software. This interactive
advantage lets students work at their own pace.
Simulations involve mechanics, sound, waves, and the Doppler effect. They include familiar introductory demonstrations like "The
monkey and the coconut," "Flame pipe," "Ballistics car," and "Breaking a beaker with sound." The package contains an expandable
multiple-choice quiz that links each question to the corresponding demonstration. 62 pp.
