"The unique and most
pedagogically useful part of this software is the Your Move whereby students can create
and smooth their own trajectories."
-Ronald Stoner,
Bowling Green State University
"Wonderful visualization and analysis tools!"
-Gary Bender,

Newtonian Sandbox

When you play in the Newtonian Sandbox, you don't need to bring any toys. Just dig in, get comfortable, and slowly open your eyes - your Mind's eye,
that is. You are about to look at one- and two-dimensional motion from a whole new vantage point. Toss the ball into the air. Where does it go?
Straight up, you say?
You have just described the ball's trajectory by the spatial path it followed as it moved; as you saw it visually with your own eyes. This sort of
description is common, but inadequate for developing explanations and predictions about motion phenomena. Your physical perception did not convey
kinematic variables such as position, velocity, acceleration, and time.
Newtonian Sandbox emphasizes graphical representations of common mechanical systems and presents an accurate image for the Mind's eye. You can
explore a wide range of physical models that generate the motion of a point mass in one and two dimensions. You can study the detail and nuance of
this motion in a variety of ways: trajectories in space, plots of horizontal and vertical positions and velocities, radial and angular positions and velocities,
and phase plots in Cartesian and polar coordinates. Vector directions and magnitudes can also be displayed, and data tabulation is possible. 64 pp.
