Develop accurate intuitions about flow of charge and energy in electric circuits without doing calculations!
Lighting Up Circuits is designed to help students learn about the flow of charge and energy in electric circuits without doing any calculations. They don't even have to know Ohm's law. A battery and light bulbs -- circuit elements from everyday life will electrify students understanding of circuits.
The program builds in complexity from basic series and parallel configurations to more complex combinations of circuits. Students point and click and progress by
correctly predicting the relative brightness of light bulbs in the displayed circuit diagrams. The basic level has students compare the brightness of a light bulb to a light
bulb in a reference circuit. In the intermediate and advance levels, the brightness of one light bulb is compared to other bulbs in the circuit. When the correct answer
is reached, a photo of the operating circuit is displayed.
Help screens along the way help students who may have trouble correctly answering the problems. The software also tracks student responses which allows teachers to go back and see student's strengths and weaknesses with the subject matter. 15 pp
System Requirements:
Your computer system and hardware configuration should be a Macintosh LC III or later with the following features:
- Minimum memory of 8 MB installed with 4 MB free
- System software version 7.1 or higher
- QuickTime 2.1 or later (Version 2.1 is included in this package)
- Hard disk with at least 7 MB free
- Color monitor set to 256 colors (It is recommended that the monitor be set on thousands of colors.)
- Virtual memory turned off.
