Essay questions allow students to write open-ended,
thoughtful responses. They can also be used as an "explain your
answer" gauge of a student's understanding following another question
type, like multiple choice or true/false.
Essay questions are not graded automatically. However,
WebAssign presents your students' responses for grading in a convenient,
anonymous list.
You simply review the list of answers, entering
a numeric or letter grade and any comments for each essay. When
you post the scores for the assignment, your marks and comments
are automatically delivered to your students.
A key can be included in essay questions for automatic
distribution after the due date, giving the students an exemplar
to use when studying for later tests.
The essay format provides a lot of information,
and when you use it in WebAssign, you are guaranteed no lost papers
and, best of all, no more illegible handwriting!
