Folders and more - Available Now from WebAssign!

We have just released three related features: Folders, a new Question Browser (for adding questions to assignments), and an enhanced My Files tool.

Folders

Folders replaces Files in the Main Menu Bar. Folders allow you to organize your questions and assignments as well as your images. Once you have your questions and assignments filed in folders, you will be able to reschedule old assignments for your current class and create assignments with old questions easier and faster.

Before you begin to file your content, all your questions and assignments are in the folders named My Unfiled Assignments and My Unfiled Questions.

You will also notice that there is a Trash folder. Any questions or assignments that you move to Trash will be out of your way. If you delete them from the trash, they will be returned to your Unfiled Assignments and Questions. You can, however, delete an image or file by moving it to the Trash and then deleting.

Question Browser

We have also released a beta version of an enhanced Question Browser for the assignment editor. Don't worry, the original Add/Manage Questions will still be available for the next several months.

The new Question Browser allows easy access to your personal wing of the WebAssign Library. In the browser, you can find the questions from your textbooks, Folders, public collections, and more. The Browser also saves your settings as you work, for quicker access on subsequent uses.

The Question Browser lets you browse your textbook using an enhanced table of contents--not only the chapters and sections, but also any special types of questions available. The table of contents for some books is complete and for others will be added in the coming weeks.

However you choose to browse questions, you can view the full detail, only a list of question names and partial text, or a new micro view showing only the question names. From all of these views you can simply click Add to put the question on your assignment.

Enhanced My Files tool

The My Files tool--available from the Question, Assignment, and Announcement Editor--has also been enhanced.

You can now save accessibility text with your images once and everytime you use the image, the alt and title tags will be included. Even if you do not save text for the alt and title tags, the file name will be used as a default. You will never have an image without accessibility text.

The same is true for your other files, e.g. html, pdf, and Word documents. After you save the link text with the file once, you can paste the link again and again without repeating the link text entry.

Embedding images and files with the new My Files tool has another added benefit--you can move your files around in your folders without worrying about breaking any links in any questions, announcements, or assignments.

As always stay tuned for more!

We will post further documentation on these features on the manual pages as soon as possible.

Please let us know if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions!
