WebAssign Labs for General Chemistry is an independent collection of 20 lab experiments, divided into Gen Chem 1 and Gen Chem 2, created and extensively class-tested by the chemistry department at North Carolina State University. Suitable for any introductory chemistry lab sequence and available exclusively through WebAssign, each customizable experiment in the chemistry lab collection includes a downloadable lab experiment, training tools for teaching assistants, and analytical tools for lab coordinators. Each experiment is paired with a collection of three complementary WebAssign assignments, following the same consistent approach:

  • Pre-Lab Activity: Students are given a brief pre-lab assignment to prepare them for their actual lab work.
  • In-Lab Activity: Measurements and data can be entered into the In-Lab Activity either during or after the actual lab session. Using a unique new tool that actually analyzes student measurements for plausibility, each In-Lab Activity provides intelligent feedback to students, assessing their measurements and calculations independently so students can quickly ascertain where their confusion may lie.
  • Post-Lab Activity: A follow-up assignment that draws connections from what the student observed in the lab to the concepts they're learning in the lecture.
